Electric or Battery: Which Lawn Mower is Best for You?

While most lawn mowers are gasoline powered, there’s been an upshot in the amount of electric mowers that have become available over the years. With the gas powered engine, all you had to do was pull the starter rope, or turn the key if it had an electric ignition, and the mower roared to life. With the older electric mowers, you had to constantly keep an eye out for the power cord that trailed along behind you.

With technology advancing every day, you now have another alternative to the electric and gas powered mowers that of the battery powered mower. These mowers usually carry enough charge in their batteries to allow the owner to mow both their front and back yards before having to plug the mower back in to charge again.

As long as you have a small yard to maintain, battery powered mowers could be the best investment you ever make for yard maintenance. The batteries usually last upwards of 5 years before you have to recycle them and buy new ones. This gives you plenty of time to maintain your yard without having to afford gasoline.

With such overwhelming need to be environmentally friendly these days, it could well be the best type of lawn mower to purchase if you have a small yard. You won’t have to worry about spilling gasoline or oil as the electric motor that’s in these battery operated mowers is completely sealed.

You won’t have to worry about your neighbors being annoyed with you mowing at odd hours, either, as the motor hardly makes any sound. This is also very good for your own ears.

The best battery to get in an electric mower is the Ni-Cad battery. This is probably the best battery for holding a charge for a long period of time. However, when it comes time to recharge it you have to run the battery completely dead first.

If you don’t run the battery down all the way, there’s a good chance that you’ll never get the full life of the battery back again as it will only use the amount that you recharged, and the rest of the power will never be used again.
